In our film we stuck to many stereotypes of social groups, by having a male antagonist, male protagonist and a female who is portrayed as helpless (or at least to begin with). Age however, we differ from them a little, where teenagers would normally be socially connected, Stan is made to seem isolated and alone in the world.
A lot is said about Spyke's character when you notice that he only has one word of diagetic dialogue in the entire film.
Also the agent tracking them down does not seem that old either, he would in the further film be shown as a rookie in the agency he works for. And why is this secret agency tracking down and interrogating teens? This is a question we purposefully want the audience to ask themselves to makes them feel that something is “off” and that the agency are the bad guys. We have tried to make it so that it is obvious who has the most power here, and have done this by always using low angled shots on Stan, except for when he is weakened and collapses to the floor. The camera is always higher than Samantha, as she has the least power in these situations. We have tried to keep the camera as even as possible when filming Commander Richards, with a few low angle shots to show his dominance over Sam. A good way we have distinguished the two powers of the film is this stairwell shot from the title sequence,
where the actor names for both characters are shown here, with the actor for Stan in the light and Commander Richards’ actor in the shadows, showing who is good and evil. In editing I tried to make the link between Sam and Spyke as obvious as possible with white flashes and reactions to show Spyke's powers.
