The title sequence starts off silent , with a build up of
non digetic music until the production logo of ralativity media is on screen ,
the shot has a black background with the blue writing of relativity media , the
same also happens in the next shot for virgin productions. Then the names are
shown again , along with other names of companies that have worked on the film
, and the names of the actors. The names come on screen in time with a gunshot
sound , this is used to draw attention to the names. The black background with
white writing is very simplistic and is used to draw attention to the words.
The shot then cuts to a medium shot of a silver door , that
is been hamered on , the shot then changes to a close up of the door , this is
to highlight the importance of what is happening to and behind the door. The shot
then changes to a long panning tracking establishing shot of the room in which
the door is in highlighing the boxes ,
and to show someome is on the move from this room.
The scene then changes to the celestial office building ,
where the same type of shots from the previous scene( panning tracking
establishing shot) is used , however they use close ups here of crashed
computers with the word error on , and
the showings of dead bodies to suggest trouble.
The shot then backs out of the office , and switches to a
crane shot that goes up the front of the high rise building , to a long shot of
eddie morra on the roof , they do this to show how high the building is , and
they also represent eddie as small in comparison to suggest he is in a weakv
position.
They then change to a medium shot of eddies face , they
higlight his fearless emotion here to show he is,t scared of the situation he
is in.
It then changes to a birds eye view over the head of eddie ,
to again show how high up he is .
The next shot is a close up of his foot hanging off the edge
, suggesting he may jump.
There is then a loud bang , and a jump cut to eddies face
and a fast pan to a window , where a guy get thrown into a wall. The shot the
reverts to the close up of eddies face and he looks over his shoulder , and to
the door seen in the first shot , this is to tell us the people banging on the
door are after him.
The shot the goes to the crane shot , and it zooms down the
building , and closes in on a taxi window , the camera then zooms through the
city and through various windows and through the streets of new york as the
title sequence is finished , however an important shot here is the one of the
brain scan , as this suggests elements to the story , which is unknown at this
point.
The shot is then descends on new york again , a long
establishing shot which then cuts to a medium on eddie , there is also a close
up of him smoking , to suggest a lower class of the character.
The shot changes to a bar , where the 180 rule is followed
as he has a conversation in a bar
The scene then changes to him working on his laptom , the
shot goes close up to the laptop, to reveal how little work he is doing , and
changes to random shot of him seemingly wasting his time , watching tv ,
playing basketball ..
It then goes to him drinking in a bar.
Then it cuts to another conversation that obeys the 180
degree rule , it draws attention to leys been handed back to eddie , to
represent that the girl (who was his girlfriend) is breaking up with him.
In a flashback during this scene , which is a quick
transition , it shows a girls face on two ocacsions one on the wedding day
filled with happy emotions , and the other with a sad looking emotion , and then
a cut to a taxi driving away , symboling again she has left.
It then changes to a shot of him walking through the streets
with his head down , walking into the odd person , suggesting he is upset and
lost in thought , then he bumps into his ex brother in law , the difference in
class is shown here by costume (eddie dressed like a bum , with his ex brother
dressed dapper and cool) the 180 degree is matched here , and also in the next
scene in a bar .there’s a close up of the pill here , to show the importance of
it.
Shots then revert to the one of him walking through new york
, and having the flashbacks about his old wife and old boss again , and the
shot the stops and goes to a low angle shot of him getting his keys out , he
also takes out the pill and takes it , teh shot changes to an xray of the pill
been swallowed , this it to show the importance of it.
As he walks up the stairs , another 180 degree rule is
established , with close ups of the girls mouth , to highlight she is nagging
and constantly talking , the shot then changes colour , this is to symbolise a
change in eddies state , and that the pill has taken effect.
After some shots of the human body , to symobloise the pill
working , the shot returns to the 180 degree rule , however this time with a
bigger focus on light , to show a new dawnand a brighter outlook on eddies
life. The camera then pas back away from teh girl , to signify eddies distance
from her , and his growing distance in all aspects from her , the 180 degree rule
is again establised , however with eddie a lot closer to her now , to show he
feels more comfortable around her , and a better realtionship than the nagging
old one has been established,
