The story follows two detectives who follow the mysterious disappearance of 3 young British girls who disappear while on holiday in New York. The detectives manage to uncover CCTV footage of the 3 girls being taken away by a masked man. However the detectives pull up no further evidence until a few mornings late when two girls are found hung by opposite lamposts inside New York zoo. With the media and public uproar, more pressure is put on the two detectives to find the man responsible. The two detectives feel out of their depth until the autopsy of the two girls reveals two notes concealed inside the girls' stomachs which, when put together reveal an address. The police are sent to the house to investigate to find it empty. Upon disappointment, one detective goes to investigate the house himself and uncovers a hidden room behind a wall which leads to a basement covered in pictures of the girl covered all over the walls. The detective uncovers a diary revealing the kidnappers obsession and love with one of the kidnapped girls, how he kidnapped the 3 girls and killed the two he didn't care and how he plans to take her to mexico and start a new life there. After learning this he quickly calls his partner to tell him, and after telling him, he flicks over to the last page which reads "goodbye detective". After reading this, the house explodes killing the detective and leaving his partner to chase the kidnapper to mexico. After reaching a police blockade, the kidnapper takes his own life and the girl is returned to her family, leaving the police and the media spiralling put of control over the events of the past week.
